J Bishop
Sunni: Are you concerned about a backlash as news of the site spreads? There are many Bush supporters who've drunk so much koolaid they seem incapable of tolerating any criticism of him. Or have you already gotten hate mail? Is your site hosted offshore?
J: helpmeimpeachbush.com isn't hosted offshore, but it's registered
anonymously. I don't want my address and phone number in the hands of rabid Bush supporters, that's for sure. Yes, I'm very concerned. I've already received hateful messages from Bush supporters, and the site hasn't even launched yet! But what can you do? If there is to be someone who is known as the Impeach Bush guy
, he has to be willing to be out there and face down the threats, jibes, and smears. Like the chicken said, I knew the job was dangerous when I took it!
[laughs]
I also think your koolaid analogy is quite apt, because Bush has some similarities with Jim Jones—apocalyptic rhetoric, demand for complete obedience, unwillingness to hear any criticism or admit any mistakes, claims of a direct hotline to a higher power, and playing with other people's lives.
Sunni: Well, I can't take credit for that koolaid meme; I don't know who started it but it's applied to a lot of stuff these days. But now that you mention it, the similarities are obvious—and scary. Your biographical information is pretty sketchy, and I can certainly understand a family man not wanting to give out too much personal information on a site like yours. But on the other hand, people want to know about the person they'd be giving money to. Are there a few things you're willing to share with me to help round out who you are in your potential contributors' minds?
J: Yes! I completely agree—people are gonna want to know those things. I mean, who'd give a complete stranger $10, or $1 for that matter? [laughs] That's why I'm trying to think of every question that anyone could ever ask, like—who are you, what are your qualifications, what are you gonna do with my money, all that—and answer it on the site. As you can see, some things, such as my bio, aren't complete yet, but they will be by launch.
So, more about me? I work for a satellite TV company in San Diego, CA—I'm not gonna say which one, but one could say that I owe my livelihood to Rupert Murdoch! I'm married, with no children. I went to Western Illinois University, but haven't finished my bachelor's degree. I'm a pretty average guy. In fact, you could say I embody the word average
. I have absolutely no experience trying to get a President impeached. But those who do have such experience, or at
least similar experience—where are they? [laughs] Someone has to do it, right? So, here I am. I'm new at this whole impeaching the president
business, so, by all means—if there is any other information I can give to help people make an informed decision, let me know! Stop by my forum and leave your ideas or questions—I'd appreciate it.
Sunni: Who do you see as the most likely supporters of your campaign?
J: Well, the price is low enough that anyone can be a supporter, at least financially. But I'd imagine it'd be mostly people from 18-34, political liberals, progressives, libertarians, greens, etc. I also think conservatives should support dumping Bush as well, because he is not conservative by any stretch of the imagination. In fact, it's likely that he has scared more people away from the conservative cause than he's brought to it. He's betrayed conservatives! If you doubt me, read Bruce Bartlett's Impostor: How George W. Bush Bankrupted America and Betrayed the Reagan Legacy, or Jim Bovard's The Bush Betrayal. Both of those books offer conservative cases against George W.Bush.
